No — that is exactly what these plans are for. You get mailboxes on your own domain and nothing else, so you are not paying every month for a server you never upload a single file to. Plenty of our email customers have their site on Wix or Squarespace, or have no website at all yet.

No, and we are careful about this one. Only the mail records change — the MX records that decide where your mail is delivered, plus the SPF and DKIM records that keep it out of spam folders. Your nameservers stay pointed wherever they are today, so whoever serves your site carries on serving it. We send you the exact records, or set them ourselves if we look after your DNS.

Yes — the whole point is you@yourbusiness.co.za, so there has to be a yourbusiness.co.za. You can register one with us, transfer one in, or keep the one you have exactly where it is and just point its mail at us, which costs nothing extra. Domain registration and renewal are billed separately from the mail plan.

One per person who needs their own address and their own password. Aliases and forwarding addresses are not mailboxes — info@ or accounts@ arriving in somebody's existing inbox does not use one up — so most businesses need fewer than they first think. Count the people, not the addresses.

Shared across the whole plan. Basic Mail's 5 GB is 5 GB for all your mailboxes together, not 5 GB each. Nothing caps an individual mailbox by default either, so one person who never deletes anything can quietly use most of it — ask us and we will set per-mailbox limits, or move you up a tier.

Yes. It is standard IMAP and SMTP with SSL on every connection, so it works in Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, the Gmail app and the mail app on any phone or tablet. There is webmail in a browser too, for when you are on somebody else's machine. We set the devices up with you rather than emailing you a list of port numbers.

It comes with you — messages, folders and contacts copied across — and your old mailbox stays running until you have confirmed everything arrived. Nothing is switched over until then. Tell us before you order how much mail there is and where it lives now, and we will tell you what the move involves.

No. A plan is one domain, so a second business name or a second brand needs its own plan. That is how the accounts are actually built rather than a rule we invented to sell more of them — the mail server treats the two names as separate accounts.

Moving up a tier changes the quota and the mailbox limit and touches none of the mail, so nothing is lost and nothing needs setting up again. The plans are billed monthly rather than on a contract, so stopping is a matter of telling us — get in touch before your next billing date and we will sort it out, including getting a copy of your mail out if you want one.
